Indoor vs Outdoor Digital Signage: What's the Difference?
Digital signage is widely used in both indoor and outdoor environments, but the requirements for each are very different.
Indoor digital signage is typically used in shopping malls, retail stores, and offices. These displays do not need extremely high brightness, as lighting conditions are controlled. Standard brightness levels between 300–700 nits are usually sufficient.
Outdoor digital signage, however, must handle direct sunlight, rain, and temperature changes. Brightness levels often exceed 2000 nits to ensure visibility. Waterproof and dustproof designs are essential, usually with IP65 or higher ratings.
Another difference is durability. Outdoor displays require stronger materials and advanced cooling systems to maintain stable performance.
Cost is also a factor. Outdoor signage is generally more expensive due to its specialized design.
Understanding these differences helps businesses choose the right solution for their specific environment.
